Where to Stay in Spain
My Favorite Hotels & Accommodations in Spain
My favorite part of planning a trip is finding a great hotel. The three main factors I’m looking at are: Location, cost & design.
Below is a list of my favorites from our travels throughout Spain, from small bed and breakfasts, to rural farm houses, to city boutiques. For me the common thread between them all - aside from the fact that we have actually stayed in all of these properties! - is that we had a beautiful experience.
I know, that may sound too general, but whether it was the stunning chic design or the warm, generous host or the killer locally sourced breakfast - or a combination of all of the above - these accommodations left an impression.
In short, I spent a ridiculous amount of time reading and researching hotel offerings in Spain the past four years. Maybe this list will save you some time when you are looking to book your Spain hotels.

LA BIONDA - Begur
This is one of my favorite hotel experiences in Spain! Mix the impeccable design with the warmest hospitality from owner Carla, and it is an unforgettable experience. You know it’s great when you keep going back.
LES HAMAQUES - Viladamat
Though the term “hidden gem” is a bit overplayed, I wouldn’t hesitate in describing Les Hamaques as such. Tucked in the tiny town of Viladamat not far from the beaches of Costa Brava, Les Hamaques is helmed by the warm and welcoming Johan and Sandy. Since we were there in December, we enjoyed sitting by the fireplace in the cozy chic common area followed by a delicious meal in the enchanting greenhouse.
HOSTAL SPA EMPÚRIES - L’Escala
Primely poised right on the shores of L’Escala in Costa Brava, and a short walk or ride into town. We enjoyed our weekend getaway so much that we went back when family was visiting us in Spain. Both times we stayed in the garden bungalows and loved waking us to the trees and the waves.
YURBBAN PASSAGE HOTEL & SPA / YURBBAN TRAFALGAR HOTEL - Barcelona
These two “sister” hotels sit side-by-side in El Born neighborhood. These hotels were my go-to spots in Barcelona. I write more about the hotels in my Barcelona City Guide.
Yurbban Passage Hotel & Spa:
Yurbban Trafalgar Hotel:
HOTEL BRUMMEL - Barcelona
If you are staying on the Montjuic side of the city in the Poble Sec neighborhood, Hotel Brummel is the spot. Excellently designed, friendly boutique hotel. *Be sure to check out the Barcelona City Guide to read more ideas for your visit to BCN!
CASA BONAY - Barcelona
Another funky boutique for the mix. I love their rooftop, their moody cool lobby, the hip coffee shop attached and the free bike rentals. The room was minimal and clean though not necessarily cozy. It’s also in an excellent location to access different parts of the city.
ORA HOTEL - Priorat
“Tucked into the cobblestone streets and earth-toned houses was an 18th-century abbey turned boutique hotel. Though you couldn’t tell from the facade, Ora Hotel’s interior includes a sleek lounge area and an airy breakfast nook and patio.”
“Just Back from…Priorat” By: Katie Sciortino Peak, YOLO JOURNAL
This boutique hotel was a real gem in Torroja del Priorat, a tiny mountain village in Catalonia’s wine region! *For more intel on the area, check out my post: Priorat Wine Region: Where to Stay and What to Do in this Spanish Wine Region
CAN CAMPOLIER - Porqueres, Girona
After spending hours searching for a quaint casa rural outside Barcelona to spend the weekend, I landed on this utterly charming converted Catalan farmhouse. Located a mile outside the town of Banyoles, you are nearby the beautiful lake as well as cafes and restaurants though you feel in a world of your own.
I would especially recommend this spot if you are into cycling. As professional cyclists themselves, the owners have all the gear and knowledge of nearby trails to set you up for a great ride. I am very much not a cyclist but really enjoyed our scenic ride to the charming medieval town of Besalu.
HOTEL BOUTIQUE PATIO DEL POSADERO - Córdoba
Staying at this beautiful boutique hotel made our quick visit to Córdoba something special. Tucked away on a cozy street, the space is thoughtfully designed and hosts Lisa and Jose offer a warm welcome. The fresh locally-sourced breakfast is excellent too.
HOTEL BOUTIQUE PALACIO ICO - Lanzarote
I really loved this hotel in Teguise. It has a calm, welcoming style, a beautiful courtyard with cacti galore. And the dining experience was *exceptional* We had a wonderful dinner upon arrival and also enjoyed the fresh breakfast. It’s perfectly located for strolling through town as well.
VEINTIUNO - Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
Located on a colorful street in Gran Canaria’s capital city, this chic boutique was such a fun stay. The rooftop terrace has great views of the cathedral and also includes a dipping pool. It’s not a bad location for sunrise/sunset viewing either. As if this wasn’t enough, the stellar breakfast is prepared to order and includes your choice of a savory AND sweet dish. (I don’t know about you, but this is my dream!) The service was excellent as well. We happened to be staying on my birthday so they kindly gave us a room upgrade.
MENORCA EXPERIMENTAL, Menorca
This secluded oasis on an expansive plot of lush land on the island’s south coast, easily landed a place on our favorite hotels list. From the swimming pool to the spa, this is a location to get some R&R in style. The design is somehow both quirky and elegant. The food is also superb. In fact, I had one of my favorite meals of our Menorca trip at the restaurant!
HOTEL RURAL SANT JOAN DE BINISSAIDA, Menorca
If you are looking for a place on the eastern side of the island, check out this rural farm hotel with excellent food and an unfussy classic design. Nothing but positive memories from this experience.
MEEM TOWNHOUSE Soller, Mallorca
Minimal, clean design and full of natural night, this boutique hotel offered a lovely tranquil stay. Furthermore the staff couldn’t be friendlier and the breakfast was fresh and tasty.
HOTEL CAPPUCINO Palma, Mallorca
Centrally located and tastefully decorated, if you’re are looking for hotels in Palma with pool, this is an excellent option. In addition to the rooftop pool and terrace, it has open air courtyard and a snazzy downstairs bar. We really enjoyed our experience here from the moment we arrived and sipped our complimentary cocktails from the bistro tables in the square.
HOTEL O SEMOAFORO Finesterre, Galicia
A converted lightkeeper’s house, this hotel is located in Finisterre which literally means “The end of the world” (and at one point in history this was the end of the world as they knew it). The accommodations are small and simple, but the experience of checking in with the only aim being to watch a magnificent sunset and eat a fresh seafood meal was very memorable. File this one under “unique hotel stays.”
MYR MARQUÉS HOUSE - Valencia
Convenient location with a reasonable price tag. We stayed here for both our trips to Valencia, for the marathon in December and Las Fallas in March. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. It is also a stone’s throw from the main plaza and cathedral. Cafe Madrid, a great place for a cocktail and the birthplace of Valencia’s signature drink, is connected to the hotel.
